For many in the food manufacturing industry, the new regulations as part of the Food Safety Modernization Act (F.S.M.A) has been a long time coming. Now in 2013, the F.D.A. proposed two regulations, the first will mandate food manufacturers to develop and implement hazard analysis and critical control point plans (HACCP). With the addition of this new regulation, food manufacturers will need to take the responsibility of identifying and controlling potential risks for contamination.
The second regulation will create and enforce food safety standards in the production and harvesting of produce. This regulation will include standards for water and soil quality, worker hygiene and animal intrusion of fields.
Each of these two new proposals have differing timelines for compliance based on the size of the company. The F.D.A also announced that the agency would be issuing additional proposed F.S.M.A regulations within the next few months.
With more regulations requiring HACCP compliance, it's important for food manufacturers to have a reliable and efficient way of documenting compliance. O2 Food ERP software for Sage 500 ERP has the tools to help manufacturers track and trace lots. The food and beverage ERP software and can also mange HACCP concerns and lot recalls with ease.
