Risk-based Preventative Plans on Horizon for Food Manufacturing Industry

The FDA recently issued a proposed rule implementing the hazard analysis and risk-based preventative control (HARPC) provisions of the Food Modernization Act (FSMA).  In the past, current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) have been the gold standard for safety regulations.  As the food manufacturing industry moves to HARPC, they will add new preventative measures to the previous cGMPs with the goal of identifying specific threats and taking action to remove the risk before it can cause harm.

No matter what type of controls are implemented, it is clear that food manufacturers will need to take steps to document their food safety plans as well as document many of the variables affecting their product, such as raw materials, supply chain sources, etc.  With multiple areas requiring documentation, it will become even more critical for food processors to implement a central system, such as food manufacturing ERP software, to help manage all of the information.

O2 Food ERP software has tools available to help you do just that.  This food manufacturing software system will manage your food safety controls and will assist with any lot recalls should it arise.  Having a food-specific process manufacturing software system will provide your business with the best tools and operate in a way that your business does.

Improve Food Manufacturing Traceability to Improve Your Business

In a recent study by the Institute of Food Technologists (I.F.T.), which was required by the Food Safety Modernization Act, states that "various tracing practices for fresh produce and processed foods and found if a food company improves their ability to trace products, the company may achieve improved business processes, increased supply chain confidence and expand markets."  Also noted in the study is that, "the I.F.T. suggests the threat of not having product tracing capabilities in the event of a foodborne illness outbreak represents significant risks to a company."

These results are in line with the ideas that EVS has been presenting for years.  As a process manufacturing ERP software system developer and reseller, EVS has years of experience in the food and beverage manufacturing industry.  EVS has seen first hand the positive business impact of having the proper, industry-specific ERP software.  For example, just a sample of the O2 Food ERP software for Sage 500 ERP tools include:

  • Full lot tracking
  • Lot recall
  • Centralized documentation
  • Formula management & security
  • Certificate of analysis tracking

It is becoming more evident that having the appropriate food manufacturing ERP software systems in place to manage your process manufacturing operations is extremely important.  For more information on how this food manufacturing software can address these challenges, visit www.evs-sw.com.

Is Your Sage 500 ERP Data Protected From Disaster?

Having business insurance is a no-brainer.  Whether in place as protection from lawsuits or to cover the cost of your assets should your place of business be damaged, business insurance is nothing new.  But, what are you doing to insure your business data?  Sure, in the case of a fire you could get new equipment and your production line would be back up and running. However, how do you continue to operate with no data?

I'm sure more than one of you is saying at this point, no problem we have tape backups. Unfortunately, there are many businesses that would agree by past experience that these not enough.  For example, there are cases when the tapes are ruined in the disaster and you are back at having nothing.  Or, maybe your tape backups made it out of the disaster, but the data recorded doesn't include everything you actually need since these tapes are only as good as the last time the full backup was completed.

In order to fully protect your data, you need a true disaster recovery solution, such as Sage 500 Cloud Disaster Recovery.  The Sage 500 Disaster Recovery Solution provides "real-time" mirroring of your Sage 500 ERP production environment and data.  It also includes nightly full database backups with incremental backups every five minutes.

What may be surprising to some is that one of the most common types of disasters is actually human error.  Things happen, it's just human nature.  What if someone forgets to run the tape backup or does it incorrectly?  Having a Sage Cloud Disaster Recovery solution located in a secure, dedicated and fully managed cloud environment duplicating your data is a real business saver.

According to the American Red Cross, "No business should risk operating without a disaster recovery plan.  While reports vary, as many as 40% of small businesses do not reopen after a major disaster."  Why risk your entire business by neglecting one area that has a simple and affordable solution such as Sage 500 Disaster Recovery?  Take the time to learn more and see how a true cloud disaster recovery solution can protect your business by visiting www.evs-sw.com.
